Havasu Falls is located on the Havasupai
Indian Reservation in the beautiful, scenic Grand Canyon National Park in
Arizona. Havasu Falls is about 100 feet high and is fed
from a constant flow of water from a deep aquifer. The
water cascading from the falls carries suspended
particles of calcium carbonate which turns to limestone
on the rock in the stream giving it a unique blue-green
color. The name "Havasupai" means "people of the
blue-green waters", and it is easy to see where this
name comes from.
Havasu Falls empties into
the Colorado River.
The hike to Havasu Falls begins at
Hualapai Hilltop, about 100 miles from the nearest town,
Seligman. It is about an 8-mile hike from Hualapai
Hilltop to the Supai Indian Village and then another 2
miles to Havasu Falls. |
