This awesome poster was chosen in honor of the space shuttle
Discovery's lift off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, this morning, July 26, 2005, at
10:39 a.m. This is NASA's
114th space shuttle launch and the first manned space
mission since the Columbia tragedy in 2003. The
Discovery liftoff was originally scheduled for July 13,
but was postponed when one of four critical
hydrogen-fuel gauges in the external tank failed just
two hours before liftoff.
During the 12-day mission to the International Space
Station, Commander Eileen Collins and her six fellow
astronauts, Pilot James Kelly, Mission Specialist
Charles Camarda, Mission Specialist Wendy Lawrence,
Mission Specialist Soichi Noguchi, Mission Specialist
Steve Robinson, and Mission Specialist Andy Thomas, will
test new techniques and equipment designed to improve
the safety of space shuttles. They also will deliver
supplies and make repairs to the Space Station.
